Happy Monday!
This week, our 5th graders are wrapping up their unit on multiplying multi-digit whole numbers. Today, they reviewed this skill and tomorrow they will take an assessment on this standard (NBT.5). Wednesday and Thursday, (and into next week) they will work to transfer their knowledge of whole number multiplication to multiply decimals.
In science, we are starting our study of light and the eye. Tomorrow, students will conduct a lab to explore how light behaves with different materials. Based on their questions today, they are very excited to get started. This week's 5th grade vocabulary reflects this new unit. Below are this week's words and definitions:
Reflect - to bounce (think: mirror)
Refract - to bend (think: prism - rainbow)
Absorb - to take in/soak in (think: foam paper)
Transparent - materials that let all light pass through (think: glass frame)
Translucent - materials that let some light pass through (think: wax paper)
Opaque - materials that let no light pass through (think: cardboard)
