MAP Testing

Welcome back - Our first day back from break was a very busy one!

This week, the Lower School is having a 2015 Blast Off/Kick Off for the new quint and the next round of MAP testing.  MAP testing will happen between January 26 and February 19 (a specific schedule will be posted).  To get the students pumped up and motivated, we are doing a few different activities.  The MAP is important and we want all our students to perform to the best of their abilities.

The first began today for 5th grade and will begin tomorrow for 4th grade.  In Art class, students are making rockets.  After they build their rockets they will load them with their goals and test taking tips to serve as a reminder of what is coming.  I encourage you to go through the goals and tips to discuss and plan for the test at home.

Each student will receive an individual goal for the math MAP test.  I have used their Fall score and their projected growth to determine their Winter Goal.  All students will learn their goal tomorrow.  In addition, I will be sending home a Goal Sheet with each student. The Goal Sheet will have their Fall RIT Score and their Winter RIT Goal.  Please ask your child for this on Thursday night, as it does require a parent signature.

Each grade level, there is a normative RIT Score, which is, ideally, what we want all students to strive for or exceed.  Most importantly, we are looking for students to show constant growth.   For your reference, the 4th grade norm for Winter is a 208 and the 5th grade norm is 217.

Another activity is a competition that will be held between the grade levels.  Our 4th grade will compete against the other 4th grade class.  Similarly, our 5th grade will compete against the other 5th grade.  This competition will be held Friday morning. Three or four students will represent each class to compete in a lightning round of questions focused on skills and concepts we have learned so far this year.  Representatives will be announced Thursday.  It's a tight race to see who will represent our class!

Thank you for your continued support!
