100th Day of School!

I cannot believe that we have been in school for 100 days already!  To celebrate 100 days of learning so far, we competed in a friendly competition, the 100th Day Challenge.  The two 5th grade classes competed against each other as did the two 4th grade classes - it was a battle between upstairs and downstairs.

Students worked collaboratively with their classmates to answer as many problems out of 100 as they could in 30 minutes.  The problems covered all the standards, skills, and concepts we have learned up to this point in the year (mostly math with a little science). I witnessed wonderful problem solving skills and collaboration by both of my classes.  I loved watching students work together to check each other's work - catching silly mistakes to ensure more points for our team.  Additionally, I saw some great perseverance - we are really working on solving problems without giving up when it gets a little tricky or challenging.

Mrs. Cartwright and I spilt the winning today.  My 5th grade class won by 12 points, while my 4th grade class lost by 2 points (51 to 49).  Win or lose, all students demonstrated that they have really learned a lot over the last 100 days.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the year will bring!

Love,
Miss Halleck
