This week, 4th grade is extending their learning about multiplication by a 1-digit number to multiplication of 2 double-digit numbers. Students are applying their understanding of the area model to find the product. Just like last week, students are not using the standard algorithm as of right now. This video (along with other Khan Academy videos) is a good resource for both multiplying by 1-digit and by 2-digits.
Students will be presenting their projects over the course of the next couple days. Quint Two Awards - projects and learner expectations - will be given out Thursday at a Lower School Assembly.
Students will take a multiplication assessment on the 4.NBT.5 standard on Friday, October 24. Students will be assessed on their ability to use the area model to multiply up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number and a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number. To earn a 4, students will have to extend their understanding to multiply larger numbers.
