Over the next few weeks, we are going to work on place value - reading, writing, comparing, and analyzing numbers. In fourth grade, the kids demonstrated mastery of these skills with whole numbers - a concept we will be reviewing for the first two days this week. We will then move into the 5th grade content - understanding decimals. Below are some great resources for this topic - there are tons out there!

In science, we will be discussing sound - how its produced, how it changes, and how we understand it (hearing). The kids have some great background knowledge from the Science Center program on August 6.
Homework will continue on a nightly basis. We will be having another homework competition during Quint 2. (5A represented during Quint 1 and celebrated with a treat on the last day of the quint.)
Also, both classrooms are using Class Dojo to track behavior. Students are able to "buy" privileges/rewards with their points every other week - ranging from a prize box choice to a no homework pass! Classes as a whole can earn a reward as well. If you are not yet connected to Class Dojo, please let me know and I will send you an invite. They have an app for your phone and I have heard lots of positive feedback from some of you about it. It's a great way to check in with your child about their day!
