We are studying the parts of the ear.  Below is the vocabulary students are responsible for knowing.

Students will be assessed on Thursday.

Outer Ear:
o   Pinna: catches sound; outside your body
o   Ear Canal: sends sound to the ear drum; tube; connects the pinna to the middle ear
 Middle Ear:
o   Ear Drum: thin skin (membrane); end of ear canal; vibrates
o   Hammer: bone; connected to the ear drum and the anvil
o   Anvil: bone; connected to the hammer and the stirrup
o   Stirrup: bone; connected to the anvil and cochlea; the 3 bones make the sound louder
Inner Ear:
o   Cochlea: connected to the stirrup and auditory nerve; filled with liquid and tiny hair cells; sound travels through the liquid and the hairs move
o   Auditory Nerve: connected to cochlea and brain; sends sound signals to the brain

o   Semi-Circular Canals: balance; do not help in hearing
