Let’s Get Started:
Attached you will find 3 lists of spelling
words for contestant to study. The packet will include word lists for two
grades above the contestants’ grade level. Contestants are given one week to contestant
and on Monday, April 13, 2015 the showdown will begin with a preliminary round!
Teachers will host, in class, the first round of the spelling bee. The top 5
spellers from each class will move on to the final round and compete for the
title Spelling Bee Champ!
Preliminary Round; Here’s How it Works:
1.
Contestants will line up.
2.
Each contestant will be given a
word to spell.
-
Contestants should spell the word
in the format Say it, S-P-E-L-L I-T, Say
it
-
If the contestant spells the word
correctly they return to the end of the line.
-
If the contestant spells the word
incorrectly they are to sit down.
-
Contestants are allowed to ask
the teacher to use the word in a sentence
3.
The teacher will continue to go
through the list of words (increasing in difficulty) until there are only 5 contestants
left standing.
The Final Showdown; Here’s How it Works:
-
All the rules from the
preliminary round still stand however; contestants will be spelling to a panel
of 3 teachers.
-
Contestants must spell the word
using the Say it, S-P-E-L-L I-T, Say it format
or it will be considered incorrect
-
When the round is down to the
final two contestants the first contestant will be given a word to spell, if
he/she spells it wrong the next contestant has to spell the same word correctly
in order to win. If neither contestant spells the word correctly another word
will be given to determine a winner.
Who Wins?
-
The 10 finalist from kindergarten
will compete for a 1st place prize
-
The 10 finalist from 1st
grade will compete for a 1st place prize
-
The 20 finalist from 2nd
and 3rd grade will compete for a 1st place prize
-
The 20 finalist from 4th
and 5th grade will compete for a 1st place prize
Good Luck Everyone!
