I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing time over the Thanksgiving weekend. I cannot believe that it is already December!!
This week, both 4th and 5th graders will be focusing on division word problem (single, and multi-step). One specific aspect of division word problems is interpreting remainders. Students will be asked to analyze the situation presented through the word problem to determine what to do with leftovers or extras. Please encourage you child to practice this on their homework this week and pay extra attention to the question being asked in the problem. To arrive at these solutions, it is not enough to simply divide and find a quotient. Students should be using their problem solving strategy and (TTQA - they know how to use this!) to help them make sure they are solving the whole problem.
In science, 4th graders will begin studying forces and motion, including Newton's Laws of Motion. The 5th graders have gained in-depth knowledge of how the ears and eyes work for our senses of sound and sight and will now learn about the other senses. Additionally, they will see how their senses work together to understand the world around them.
This Friday, December 5 is the Fifth Grade Frenzy. If your child has not returned their permission slip, please make sure they do so by Thursday.
Next Friday, December 12 is the Frozen Concert (6:00). All students are expected to attend and perform. Mr. Hawkins has sent home the attire for each grade. I will get a copy from him and post the information here ASAP.
